The river, the parks and the best-known spots around the city are all reachable by city bus, without a car.

1City lineTrapisti

Trapisti and the Marija Zvijezda Monastery

The Trappist monks settled here in the late 19th century and the area still carries their name. What they left behind fits into a single walk along the Vrbas.

Banj BusDay trip

Banj Hill

A wooded hill above the city. At the top are the memorial to the fallen fighters of Krajina by Antun Augustinčić, a viewpoint over Banja Luka and the Vrbas valley, and trails for walking and hiking.

Banj Hill is served by the separate Banj Bus, not a city line. Check the days and departures before you set off, or walk up on the trails from town.

Vrućica Beach

The city beach on the Vrbas, in a part of town known for its warm thermal-mineral springs. A break from the summer heat, and thanks to the warm water Srpske Toplice stays busy out of season too.

Botanical Garden and University Campus

Around 1,500 plant species grow on a little over five hectares, from grasses and shrubs to mature trees. Among them are ginkgo, Serbian spruce, Japanese magnolia, Judas tree and Turkish hazel, alongside everyday useful plants such as wormwood and asparagus. The garden adjoins the University Campus, so both fit into one walk.

Stops: Kampus, Dvorana Borik, Borik, or Autoservis

Line 20 stops right at the campus entrance, and lines 14B, 14 and 9B at nearby stops, a few minutes on foot from the garden and the campus.

20City lineAda

Stara Ada Park Restaurant

A green river island on the Vrbas, with a waterside promenade and a restaurant under a timber roof. A place for a break, a coffee and a walk without leaving the city.
